Job Title: Shelter Manager

Location: Cass County Humane Society (CCHS), Logansport, IN

Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary:

The Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cass County Humane Society (CCHS), ensuring the highest standards of care for the animals in our facility. This role involves managing the animal care staff, maintaining shelter protocols, and fostering an environment that promotes animal welfare, adoptions, and community engagement. The Shelter Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to support the organization’s mission of providing humane care to dogs and cats, increasing adoption rates, and educating the community about responsible pet ownership.

Key Responsibilities:

Shelter Operations Management:

● Oversee daily shelter operations to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy environment for all animals, staff, and visitors.

● Develop, implement, and maintain shelter protocols and procedures to meet best practices in animal care and welfare.

● Monitor inventory levels and manage supplies for animal care, cleaning, and shelter maintenance.

Animal Care and Welfare:

● Ensure all animals receive appropriate medical care, nutrition, exercise, and enrichment.

● Collaborate with veterinarians and other professionals to address the medical and behavioral needs of the animals.

● Implement and manage animal intake and adoption processes, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for adopters.

Staff Management and Development:

● Help recruit, train, and supervise animal care staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and supportive team environment.

● Create staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for animal care and shelter operations.

● Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training to enhance staff skills and knowledge.

Community Engagement and Education:

● Support and participate in community outreach programs to promote CCHS’s mission and increase awareness of adoption opportunities.

● Work with the Executive Director to develop educational initiatives that engage the community in responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals.

● Represent CCHS at local events and maintain positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.

Collaboration with the Executive Director:

● Work closely with the Executive Director to align shelter operations with the organization’s goals and strategic plans.

● Assist in implementing fundraising initiatives and events to support CCHS’s programs.

● Provide regular reports on shelter activities, animal care, adoption statistics, and staff performance.

Qualifications :

● Proven experience in animal shelter management, veterinary practice, or a related field.

● Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.

● Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

● Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to the mission of CCHS.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with the public and community stakeholders.

● Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings as required.

Preferred Skills :

● Experience in developing and implementing animal care protocols and adoption procedures.

● Familiarity with shelter management software and database systems.

● Knowledge of local and state animal welfare laws and regulations.
