Job Description

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) is seeking a part-time Research Assistant based in Fairbanks. This position will prepare for and conduct field work such as setting up and testing various instrumentation, purchasing supplies, and conducting laboratory experiments.

To thrive in this role, candidates need to be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Have experience with data analysis software (e.g., R, SPSS) as well as knowledge of research methodologies and experimental design. You must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. In addition, strong organizational and time management skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have experience with field work, laboratory work, data analysis and statistical software.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Must be able to travel for field work.
A valid AK Driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks Alaska. It is a part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule , Grade 78, based on education and experience.
