Lab Technician - Level 1 Abilities and Expectations

R&D Technician

-Experience level spans from untrained-to becoming competent in all basic lab
procedures and basic processes and test methods as defined by the specific R&D team
-Participates as a contributing team member, for example in 5S or an audit team
-Supports the lab with simple side responsibilities as needed
-Possess a high degree of reliability and integrity
-Provides productive support of projects with focus on accuracy and throughput

-Follows them precisely and safely

-Understands operation and safety requirements

-Understands and follows what needs to be done on a daily basis
-Focuses mainly on tasks requiring minimal technical expertise
-Recognizes when results are out of the expected norm

-Receives daily or weekly tasks or to-do lists
-Schedules equipment and resources to accomplish those tasks
-Works with others in lab to maximize
equipment utilization

-Possesses good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate and coordinate work with colleagues in PI lab

-Uses Excel sheets with pre-programmed formulas and enters results into pre-arranged formats
-Uses calendar functions and LIMS for equipment scheduling and sample submission
-Uses lab management software for training, EHS and IOs/work orders

Additional Details:

• Juggling multiple tasks and working on 20-30 projects at a time
• Responsible for cutting samples with power tools
• Prepping, labeling and Organizing samples
• Follow testing instructions
• Finding why material failed in the field with failure tests
• Tests will be outlined in STMS and SOPS
• Need to be very organized and efficient with work
• Need to be a self-starter, you will be given autonomy and are expected to complete tasks on time
