Posting Summary Reporting to the Executive Director of Government Relations, the Government Relations Specialist is responsible for policy research, communications, and public engagement for the Office of University Relations at the University of Vermont. The Government Relations Specialist is a key member of a small but critical team representing the university to external constituencies. The Government Relations Specialist works with and under the direction of the Executive Director and oversees administrative responsibilities for the Office of University Relations. - Create Research Briefings, confidential memoranda, position proposals, and executive summaries using independent judgment and research
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop, plan, implement , and advocate the University's strategic policy agenda
- Collaborate with Executive Director regarding Office of University Relation's budget process, financial management, schedule coordination, and day-to-day Office management
- Track legislative priorities, schedules and action
- Coordinate the planning and execution of events programmed by the Office of University Relations
- Communicate with internal stakeholders
- Attend and participate in higher education association/consortial meetings
- Attend hearings and other meetings related to all segments of state and local government
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience) Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced, high-pressure office. Strong familiarity with federal, state, and local government and issues impacting higher education issues and their research missions. Excellent research, writing, and editing skills. Effective creation and delivery of presentations to diverse and sophisticated audiences. Demonstrable history of reliability, organizational and problem-solving skills, and a track record of proficient community engagement.
