Job Summary



The Cybercrime Investigator will be responsible for assisting in the investigation of cybercrimes, digital threats, and other IT-related security incidents that affect the Georgia Gwinnett College community. This entry-level position will involve responding to reports of cybercrimes, gathering evidence, collaborating with IT security teams, and ensuring adherence to legal guidelines in cyber investigations. The individual will have the opportunity to become Georgia POST certified within one year of hire, with continued training to develop skills in cybercrime investigation and law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial investigations into incidents of cybercrime such as hacking, phishing, identity theft, online harassment, and data breaches affecting the college.
  • Work closely with the college's Information Technology department to secure and analyze digital evidence.
  • Monitor and investigate potential cyber threats, including those disseminated through social media and other online platforms.
  • Assist with digital forensic investigations, data recovery, and analysis of compromised systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all investigations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Provide expert advice on cybersecurity best practices and work with the campus community to promote cyber safety awareness.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, as needed, to investigate cyber-related crimes impacting the campus.
  • Participate in professional development and training, including becoming Georgia POST certified within one year of hire.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 Year / Associate Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • 1 - 2 years of previous experience in IT security, cyber investigations, or digital forensics.
  • Must pass a background check, including a review of digital activity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • Basic certifications in cybercrime investigation or IT security (such as CompTIA Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker, or equivalent) are desired.
  • Prior experience working in law enforcement or cybersecurity in a higher education setting.
  • Additional certifications in digital forensics or advanced cybersecurity (such as GIAC, EnCE, or GCFA).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to obtain Georgia POST certification within one year of employment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity threats and incident response.
  • Proficient in the use of digital forensic tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws governing cybercrime and digital evidence handling.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
