Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Clinical Psychologist for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois to perform professional psychological assessments and therapy for a broad range of individuals in the Forensics Program. Serves as a member of the Inter-disciplinary Treatment Team. Evaluates and assesses patients to determine mental competency for potential discharge and fitness to enter a plea, to stand trial, to be sentenced or any issue related to mental illness or insanity. Testifies as an expert witness. Develops special programs for fitness to stand trial and various maladaptive behaviors. Selects and administers therapeutic and research techniques for patients exhibiting a broad range of disorders. Performs Quality Improvement projects to ensure quality of services provided.

Essential Functions

  • Performs professional psychological assessments and therapy for a broad range of individuals in the Forensics Program.
  • Develops special programs for fitness to stand trial and various maladaptive behaviors and/or living skills.
  • Selects and administers therapeutic and research techniques for patients exhibiting a broad range of disorders.
  • Serves as a member of the Inter-disciplinary Treatment Team.
  • Serves as designated team leader of professional care staff when special assignments or group projects are assigned.
  • Performs Quality Improvement projects to ensure quality of services provided.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires current license as a Clinical Psychologist by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to walk and stand for a significant period of time, including stooping, bending, lifting or exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Requires the ability to participate in the restraint interventions that require the physical hold of a patient.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
